SimTower Tips

SimTower Masterpiece, Part 1
My own strategy for building a tower is based on the fact that travel time raises Sims stress level.  Riding elevators high into a tower raises stress levels.  So my basic plan is to keep the building wide and short, building up to floor 45.  By that time, with 15,000 population, I can build a thin spire of empty floors up to 100 to place the cathedral.

First off, the kick-start.  Several others and I have had problems getting both the $4,000,000 combined with the 3-story lobby.  I found out the hard way that I first had to start a new tower, move the cursor to the lower left corner to click for the $4M, then try to build a 3 story lobby. When this doesn't work, stop, click file, click new tower, do not save old tower, click on lower left corner, then go straight up to the left most ground level to start your lobby, pressing also the shift and control keys.  You should get your 3 story lobby this time around.

Screen ShotStart at the very left edge; do not even bother to leave space for the lobby canopy.  The game screen is 375 floor sections across, and you want to squeeze 41 offices across the screen.  Three standard elevators will be between offices 7 & 8, 21 & 22, and 35 & 36.

Start at the left, build up to floor 10. As soon as every office is placed, set rent to $15,000 per quarter.  Real landlords squeeze blood out of turnips.  When you finish your first block of offices, 14 across and 10 floors high, build up to floor 10, and so on and so forth.  You will wind up with 41 x 7 = 287 offices, all set at high rent.

And this rent will never change.  For the rest of the game, every quarter will see all those offices paying you all that money.

At this point, save the tower under a name like "Cash Cow". You can now go onto part II, or you might run the tower a couple of quarters to build up the cash reserve, or if you are REALLY greedy you can let it run overnight while you sleep and wake up next morning as rich as Bill Gates.  Cash Cow makes a good starting point if you plan to build several towers.

By the way, as soon as your population passes 1,000, you will start to get messages that your tower needs security, NO IT DOESN'T, at least not right away.  Terrorists do not strike at security free towers, and fires only happen to 3 star towers and above.  Just finish building cash cow as a 2 star tower first.
