- Much is discussed about how to make sims prosper... what can I do to
make their lives disastrous, but still keep 'em alive?
There are plenty of ways to inflict pain on your Sim. Don't worry, you won't
be disappointed.
- How is nudity handled in The Sims?
We [Maxis] use our "censor" effect. I [Jeff Charvat] think some of
the fan sites have screen shots. We [Maxis] basically blur some pixels like
you see on the cop shows on TV.
- Can objects be placed diagonally? Example: Can you put a TV or chair in
a corner?
No but you can have diagonal walls.
- When you go back to play that saved game, do you start off where you saved
it, or is it different because the computer's been controlling it?
Only the relationship will be altered with that person, their house will remain
the same. Even if the computer controlled person is visiting your house, you can
save that house and go load the other house and the computer controlled person
will be home for you to control.
- When you marry another sim does their property
automatically become yours?
I guess I am assuming they have their own separate house with furnishings. So, can
you choose which house to live in and sell the other? The net worth of their
property is added to your family's net worth.
- If you choose to divorce your wife or husband any chance you can rid yourself
of your children or are you stuck with the kids when your ex leaves?
You cannot choose Divorce in The Sims but characters can move out.
- Is working at an adoption center or animal shelter a career for the sims?
No.
- Can an animal give birth to a baby...or babies?
No, but you can restock the fish tank :-)
- Can sim houses have hidden rooms or trap doors?
The architect tool in The Sims allows you to make any kind of room that you want
but Sim houses cannot have hidden rooms and trap doors.
- I downloaded a screenshot that has a little girl, a
school bus, a '57 Chevy, and a man out in the front of the house. The
caption for the man (under the photo) says, "Hmmm, could use a
paintjob". So, can you like, call a friend over, drink beer, and fix up the
car? and paint, or have the car painted?
You can definitely call your friends over to drink beer, hottub, swim,
etc., but you can't paint the '57 chevy. If you are interested in painting, your
Sims have the ability to paint increasing your creativity skill which in turn
helps you get promoted within certain job tracks. You can also sell your artwork
for simoleons ($$).
- Is a pet shop available to the sims, to purchase more fish and animals?
Do you get a variety of animals in which you can purchase from at a pet store?
You may be able to download other animals in the future, but in the release
version, just the Aquarium is available.
- I've heard that there will be new objects downloadable from the Web site
which can contain new behaviors for the sims - is this something that third
parties could use to add new abilities to The Sims?
There will be downloadable objects with new behaviors for The Sims but we are not
releasing the code to make objects. This may change. The current plan is that
third parties will be able to modify skin, floor and wall textures and will be
able to make different objects with the same behavior as objects in the game.
- Do the sims have anything like a digital "DNA" that gets inherited?
An adopted baby is random. A baby from kiss will -
Inherit skin color from one of the parents. For personality and interests it will
choose randomly for each either the mother's, the father's, or an average of the
mother's and the father's.
For example it can turn out:
School Interests for talk - Mother's
Playfulness - Father's
Niceness - Average ( (Mother's + Father's ) / 2 )
etc.
- Will there be more than the fishes in the game?
We [Maxis] are talking about other animals for the Sims but no promises. The game
release will only include the fish tank.
